Strategically using a fan can significantly reduce your summer energy use. Although fans do not actually produce cold air, they do move air around to create a wind chill and are notably cheaper than air conditioning. Pairing a fan with air conditioning will allow you to set your thermostat about 4°F higher with no reduction in comfort. Just remember to turn your fan off when you leave — using a fan without people around to feel the wind chill does nothing but add to your energy bill.
